Slimey Fun

It was a great start to the term with some slimey fun! We used a you-tube clip on 'cool science' as inspiration to conduct a science experiment using water, PVA glue and borax to make icky-sticky slime. I was very pleased to see that all groups showed safe work habits and used the materials responsibly. Here are some slimey photos - be warned, they're really slimey!

more stop motion animation

What do you think of Sara, Sophie and Rachel's first attempt at stop motion animation? I've never seen an attack between a turtle and wombat but I guess anything is possible when you imagine it! Keep up the great work girls!

stop motion animation

This is their first attempt at stop motion animation, and these boys (Aaron, Liam and Morgan) have shown how it easy it can done in just 45 minutes. Your positive attitudes, ideas, imagination, prior-planning, and team work prove that anything is possible. Congratulations boys on an awesome effort. What are you going to create next?

A wonderful recycling effort by Room 4

This afternoon, we had fun filming our recycling presentations. Our challenge was to present an explanation of how to recycle newspaper and magazines. We had to work in small groups of 5-6. We hope you like our video presentation...

Marbling

This afternoon, we had lots of fun having a go at marbling paper. Since our teacher preferred to use oil based paints at home to marble our backgrounds for the art auction class piece, this was our opportunity to practice the skills of marbling.

No-one had prior knowledge of marbling, so it was like a science investigation where we had to think carefully about what we were doing and how our skills impacted upon the outcome or finished product. With a few mistakes to begin, we developed a range of skills to create an effective range of marbled paper.

Good work from everyone this afternoon!!!

Multiplication basic facts test RESULTS

A big congratulations to Bonnie and Rachel who achieved our class goal - achieving more than 114/121 with a time of less than 4:00 minutes.

Click here to view the class results

Also, there were six students who showed enormous personal growth in their knowledge of basic facts: Taylah, Sasha, Sophie, Liam, Hatty and EmmaM.

Well done to these students who showed commitment to their learning these past 5 weeks. Remember, NO maths homework was set for the past five weeks so students could practice their basic facts relentlessly.

However, I believe there is room for continued improvement, and lunchtime practice is now mandatory for all those students who need to achieve our class goal. I look forward to seeing more students recall their basic facts quickly and easily.

Next week, we begin division...

Plotting the problem to Star Trek Enterprise

Your homework tonight is to view this Star Trek episode and list 10 new words that are specific to science fiction writing. Even if the words are hard to spell, have a go since some of them might be made up, in order to add effect. Tomorrow, we will work with these lists of words.
